The Story
Burnt out by the London rat race, writer Chloe Dalton retreated back to her rural roots in the countryside, where a chance encounter changed her life. Chloe never imagined taking on the role of caretaker for a baby hare. Despite its small size and endangered status, she couldn't resist giving the leveret a fighting chance.
"Imagine you could hold a baby hare and bottle-feed it. Imagine that it lived under your roof and lolloped around your bedroom at night, drumming on the duvet cover when it wanted your attention. Imagine that, over two years later, it still ran in from the fields when you called it and snoozed in your house for hours on end. This happened to me."
Join them on their adventure in Chloe Dalton's memoir of her unusual experience of raising a leveret to adulthood, and ultimately prepping it for release into the wild. A magical and deeply moving account of how the lives of a hare and a women cross paths.
Raising Hare was shortlisted for the women's prize for non-fiction 2025.
Hardback, 304 pages.
